Surfshark Upgrades Its Servers to 10Gbps

Surfshark servers upgrade

Surfshark has introduced some changes to its service, which can offer even better speeds to its customers.

In a blog post, the company announced it’s upgrading its 1Gbps servers to 10Gbps in various locations worldwide. The VPN vendor attributes the shift to the recent rises in 5G technology.

While it didn’t discuss the technological upgrades in detail, it said that the customers would benefit from faster VPN connection and less crowded servers.

If you’re wondering where you can try the new speeds, here’s a list of servers affected by the change:

Surfshark also said that it’ll continue to add 10Gbps servers to its arsenal.

Testing the new servers

As soon as we saw the post, we tested how the new 10Gbps servers perform.

First, we checked our base speed in Serbia.

Then we hopped onto the closest server affected by the upgrade in Belgrade, Serbia.

The decrease in download speed was only 9.5%.

Next, we tried connecting to Bratislava, Slovakia.

The server again performed very well, with the download speed only dropping by 11%.

We increased the distance to the VPN server even more by connecting to one in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The result was a 24% drop in download speed, but our browsing experience remained unchanged.

Lastly, we connected to a server in Ashburn, US, to test the performance of Surfshark’s overseas servers.

Unfortunately, we witnessed a 92.5% drop in download speed. However, it was still enough to browse the web and watch YouTube videos without interruptions.

We tested some other servers in the region, and they performed relatively the same.

Conclusion

Our tests showed that the nearby Surfshark server performed very well after the latest upgrade.

We did get significantly lower speeds when connecting to overseas servers, but we still had an enjoyable online experience.

With Surfshark announcing that it’ll introduce more 10Gbps servers, it’s worth keeping an eye on which locations the provider will choose next.
