Google’s Pixel smartphone range is reportedly facing issues due to the VPN by Google service. Users have reported that they are experiencing problems with loading certain apps and websites. The issue occurs specifically when the VPN by Google service is enabled on Pixel 7 and Pixel 8a devices.

This problem, however, doesn’t seem to be widespread, according to 9to5Google. The publication reports that other devices connected to Google’s VPNs are working normally. For affected users, the easiest solution is to disable the VPN entirely. Alternatively, users can manually exclude specific apps from the VPN via the settings.

Google’s previous VPN service, VPN by Google One, meanwhile, was scheduled to be shut down on June 20, 2024. However, it seems that the service is still operational for some users.

The issues with the new VPN by Google are unlikely to be related to the shutdown of VPN by Google One. Instead, Google likely just rolled out the VPN by Google service too soon without ensuring that it was fully functional.

The new VPN by Google service is available on a wider array of devices, including the Pixel 77 Pro7a, and Pixel Fold. However, not all users on these devices will have access to the service just yet. Some older phones are still awaiting a system update to enable the VPN by Google.

According to Reddit users, some users are also receiving the “Google VPN is on” notification, even though the VPN by Google service isn’t enabled. This issue seems more widespread, with some users even reporting that the VPN by Google service is automatically enabling itself.

Considering Google’s history with VPNs, consider getting a good VPN with a discount.
