youtube premium price goes up by $2 per month

YouTube has just increased the price of its Premium subscription by $2 in the US. It went from $11.99 to $13.99 per month.

The streaming giant went on to say the price hike will affect both existing and new users.

YouTube Premium price increase

The individual plan increase is already live on the YouTube Premium page. The company said existing users will start paying the new price in the next billing cycle.

Besides the $2 increase, the service’s annual price went up from $120 to $140. This helps you save $28 in comparison to paying month by month.

If you are purchasing Premium from the iOS app store, the new monthly price is even higher, reaching $18.99 due to Apple’s 30% tax.

Users who have been using the Premium version for five years or longer will receive three additional months at the current price.

Luckily, there are still ways to save money on the service. You can get YouTube Premium for cheap with a Turkey VPN as the subscription is less expensive there.

With this version of YouTube, Google offers various extra features, such as ad-free viewing and the option to download videos.

Earlier this month, it also introduced an experimental feature that lets you lock the screen to avoid accidental touches.

Other pricing changes

In addition to Premium getting more expensive, Google is also increasing the price of YouTube Music. The service was previously available at $9.99 but will now cost $10.99

This move didn’t come as a surprise as Apple Music and Amazon Music opted for similar subscription raises recently. Spotify hasn’t made such changes yet, but CEO Daniel Ek said the company is considering the idea.

More and more streaming services are coming up with new ways to increase their revenues. Video streaming platforms like Apple TV+, Paramount+, and Peacock have all recently decided to hike their prices.

Netflix, one of the pioneers in the industry, opted to put a stop to password-sharing and attract more paying subscribers. While this strategy helped it build a larger user base, it still didn’t impact its revenue the way the company expected.

Disney also announced plans to increase its prices soon. The streaming service is also cutting down on content to reduce its expenses.

YouTube’s new price bumps weren’t accompanied by any sort of official announcement. They come after last year’s changes in family plans in many countries. This subscription went from $17.99 to $22.99 per month in the US.

The company also said it’s pushing to restrict ad-blockers on its platform in the hope of attracting more users to the Premium version.

If you want to manage your subscription, you can do so on the Paid Memberships page.
