How to Watch The Purge: Anarchy on Netflix in the US with a VPN (2026)

The Purge: Anarchy (2014) is currently available on Netflix in Germany. The official Netflix Germany page lists the horror movie, starring Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, and Zach Gilford, with English audio and subtitles.

However, The Purge: Anarchy is not currently available on Netflix US. If you’re in the United States, you can try connecting to a German VPN server using Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, or NordVPN. All three services offer German IP locations.

Keep in mind that connecting to Germany does not guarantee access to the movie. Netflix can recognize VPN connections and restrict regional content. Its official VPN guidelines explain that VPN users may only see movies and shows with worldwide licensing rights.

How to watch The Purge: Anarchy on Netflix with a VPN

Netflix Germany currently carries The Purge: Anarchy, so you can try connecting to a German VPN server before opening Netflix. Follow these steps:

1. Choose a VPN. Private Internet Access is our first recommendation, followed by ExpressVPN and NordVPN.
2. Download and install the VPN app.
3. Connect to a server in Germany.
4. Fully close Netflix if it is already open.
5. Reopen Netflix after the VPN connects.
6. Sign in with your existing Netflix account.
7. Search for The Purge: Anarchy.
8. Start playback if the title appears.

Germany is a suitable country to try because the Netflix Germany listing currently shows The Purge: Anarchy without an unavailability warning. Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN also maintain German server locations, giving you several connection options.

However, Netflix may still detect the VPN and prevent the movie from appearing in your account’s search results.

Best VPNs for watching The Purge: Anarchy on Netflix

All three recommended VPN providers offer servers in Germany. Private Internet Access includes a dedicated streaming-optimized location, while ExpressVPN and NordVPN provide additional city choices.

VPN	Germany locations	Option to try first
Private Internet Access (Editor’s Choice)	Berlin, Frankfurt, Germany Streaming Optimized	Germany Streaming Optimized
ExpressVPN	Berlin, Frankfurt – 1, Frankfurt – 3, Nuremberg	Frankfurt – 1
NordVPN	Berlin, Frankfurt, and automatic Germany server selection	Fastest available German server

These locations appear in the VPN providers’ official server directories. While the providers offer German IP addresses, none can guarantee that Netflix will display The Purge: Anarchy through a VPN connection.

1. Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access is our Editor’s Choice for The Purge: Anarchy because it offers a dedicated Germany Streaming Optimized location alongside servers in Berlin and Frankfurt.

According to the official PIA server list, the available German locations are DE Berlin, DE Frankfurt, and DE Germany Streaming Optimized.

Start with Germany Streaming Optimized. PIA provides this location specifically for streaming use, making it the most practical first connection to try when accessing German streaming services.

If Netflix does not display The Purge: Anarchy, disconnect and try Frankfurt or Berlin. These locations provide alternative German IP addresses without requiring you to switch countries.

PIA’s virtual server documentation explains that some VPN locations use servers physically hosted in another country. Germany does not appear on its published list of virtual IP locations. PIA also identifies Frankfurt as a physical hosting location for several of its virtual servers serving other countries.

That makes Germany a straightforward country to select, although the documentation does not establish the physical location of every individual server in the German network.

If streaming problems continue, try another German server, update the PIA application, or clear your browser cookies. Even with its Streaming Optimized location, PIA cannot guarantee that Netflix will allow access to the movie.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is another option for connecting to Netflix Germany. The provider offers multiple German server locations, including two separately listed Frankfurt options.

The official ExpressVPN server directory currently lists Berlin, Frankfurt – 1, Frankfurt – 3, and Nuremberg.

Frankfurt – 1 is a practical first choice because ExpressVPN identifies it as one of its high-capacity server locations. If Netflix does not work with that connection, switch to Frankfurt – 3 or Nuremberg. Berlin provides another alternative.

ExpressVPN’s Germany VPN page confirms that the provider operates physical 40Gbps servers in Frankfurt and Nuremberg. These locations provide German IP addresses through servers physically located in Germany.

The provider also offers automatic location selection, which can help you choose a suitable German server without manually selecting a city.

However, ExpressVPN’s documentation does not establish the physical hosting arrangement of every available Berlin or Frankfurt entry. Users should avoid assuming that all individual endpoints have identical infrastructure.

If The Purge: Anarchy does not appear, try another German location and restart Netflix. ExpressVPN may provide a different IP address, but Netflix can still detect the VPN and restrict regional playback.

3. NordVPN

NordVPN provides German IP addresses through a network of more than 240 servers, according to its official Germany server page.

The NordVPN Germany server directory identifies Berlin and Frankfurt as available city choices. It also offers automatic server selection, allowing the app to choose a suitable German connection.

For the first attempt, open NordVPN, select Germany, and let the app connect automatically. If you prefer choosing a city manually, start with Frankfurt and try Berlin if you experience problems.

NordVPN currently advertises more than 240 German servers and three Germany server locations, although its public connection instructions specifically name Berlin and Frankfurt. The published server total can change as NordVPN expands or adjusts its network.

Another useful feature is SmartPlay. According to NordVPN’s official SmartPlay documentation, the feature combines VPN and DNS technologies to improve streaming compatibility while keeping the connection encrypted.

SmartPlay activates automatically when you connect through the NordVPN app. You do not need to install a separate extension, adjust DNS settings, or activate the feature manually.

NordVPN’s German server page does not provide a physical host location for every individual endpoint. It confirms German IP availability and the named city options, but users should not infer undocumented hosting details.

SmartPlay may help with some streaming connections, but it does not guarantee access to The Purge: Anarchy or any other region-specific Netflix movie.

What to do if The Purge: Anarchy does not appear

If Netflix does not display The Purge: Anarchy after you connect to Germany, your browser may retain older location information, or Netflix may have recognized the VPN connection. Try the following steps:

1. Close Netflix completely.
2. Disconnect from the VPN.
3. Reconnect to Germany.
4. Try another server or location in the same country.
5. Clear Netflix cookies and your browser cache.
6. Open a private or incognito browser window.
7. Reopen Netflix and sign in again.
8. Search for The Purge: Anarchy.

Private Internet Access users should try Germany Streaming Optimized first, followed by Frankfurt or Berlin. ExpressVPN users can switch between Frankfurt – 1, Frankfurt – 3, Nuremberg, and Berlin. NordVPN users can reconnect automatically or switch between Frankfurt and Berlin.

If the movie still does not appear, Netflix may be limiting the catalog because of the VPN connection. The Netflix missing titles guide also identifies other possible reasons, including licensing changes, profile maturity settings, and language preferences.

Netflix may detect the VPN

Connecting to a German VPN server changes the public IP address that Netflix sees. Instead of your usual US address, Netflix generally sees a German IP address associated with the VPN connection.

However, changing your apparent location does not guarantee access to the German Netflix catalog. Netflix may recognize that the IP address belongs to a VPN provider and limit the movies and shows available through that connection.

According to Netflix’s official VPN support page, users connecting through a VPN may only see content for which Netflix holds worldwide distribution rights.

That means The Purge: Anarchy may remain unavailable through your account even though Netflix Germany currently carries it.

Trying another German server can sometimes resolve connection or location problems, but no VPN can guarantee access. Netflix can change its detection systems and regional licensing agreements at any time.

Can you use a Netflix ad-supported plan with a VPN?

No. Netflix currently does not support VPN connections with its ad-supported experience.

If you subscribe to a Netflix plan with ads, you may encounter a VPN or proxy error when connecting through Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, or NordVPN.

Netflix confirms this limitation in its VPN support documentation. To use an ad-supported plan normally, disconnect the VPN.

An ad-free Netflix subscription avoids this particular restriction, but Netflix may still detect VPN connections and prevent access to region-specific movies such as The Purge: Anarchy.

Does changing the VPN location change your Netflix account?

No. Connecting to a German VPN server does not change your Netflix email address, password, profiles, or existing account credentials.

The VPN changes the public IP address associated with your internet connection. It does not automatically convert your US Netflix subscription into a German subscription or change your account information.

You can continue signing in with your existing Netflix username and password. However, the available movies and TV shows may vary depending on regional licensing rights, account settings, and whether Netflix detects your VPN.

The Netflix US title listing does not currently establish US streaming availability for The Purge: Anarchy, and current US streaming listings identify other services instead.

Connecting to another country also does not permanently change your Netflix home region. Once you disconnect from the VPN, Netflix generally returns to recognizing your normal internet location.

Which VPN should you use?

Private Internet Access is our first recommendation because it offers a Germany Streaming Optimized location alongside Berlin and Frankfurt. These options make it convenient to try different German connections without changing countries, although Netflix access is not guaranteed.

ExpressVPN is a useful alternative thanks to its Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Berlin locations, including physical high-capacity servers in Frankfurt and Nuremberg. NordVPN offers more than 240 German servers and includes SmartPlay, which activates automatically when you connect.

Netflix Germany currently carries The Purge: Anarchy, making Germany the verified international location for this guide. However, Netflix catalogs, VPN server networks, and detection methods can change, so connecting to Germany does not guarantee that the movie will play from the United States.
