How to Watch Hypnotic on Netflix in the US with a VPN (2026)

Hypnotic (2023), the science fiction action thriller directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Ben Affleck, appears in the official United Kingdom Netflix catalog. The movie follows detective Danny Rourke as he investigates mysterious bank robberies while searching for his missing daughter. Alice Braga, William Fichtner, and JD Pardo also star in the film.

Hypnotic (2023) is not currently available through a Netflix US subscription. The United Kingdom offers a Netflix catalog listing, and Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN all provide British VPN connection options. However, the availability of a UK server does not automatically allow US subscribers to access movies licensed for Britain.

Netflix may detect VPN connections and restrict the available catalog to globally licensed titles. Its official VPN support policy explains these limitations. Additionally, VPN providers may restrict attempts to circumvent geographic content licensing, so no provider can guarantee playback.

How to watch Hypnotic on Netflix with a VPN

Before starting, confirm that you want the 2023 movie featuring Ben Affleck. Netflix also distributes a separate 2021 psychological thriller called Hypnotic, starring Kate Siegel, which is available to US subscribers.

1. Choose a VPN provider. Compare Private Internet Access first, ExpressVPN second, and NordVPN third, and review their streaming policies before subscribing.
2. Download and install the official VPN application on your Windows PC, Mac, smartphone, tablet, or another supported device.
3. Select a United Kingdom location when your intended use complies with the applicable terms. PIA lists UK Streaming Optimized, ExpressVPN offers London, and NordVPN supports automatic UK server selection.
4. Fully close Netflix, including browser tabs and background application sessions.
5. Connect to the chosen VPN endpoint and reopen Netflix after the application confirms the connection.
6. Sign in with your existing Netflix account and select your normal profile.
7. Search for Hypnotic (2023). Confirm that Ben Affleck plays detective Danny Rourke rather than selecting the 2021 Kate Siegel movie.
8. Start playback only if Netflix displays the correct title and allows access under your subscription and regional licensing conditions.

You can open the official Netflix UK Hypnotic movie page to verify the title identifier, release year, and cast. The UK listing identifies the 2023 thriller as a story involving a missing child, unusual mental abilities, and a criminal investigation that becomes increasingly difficult to understand.

The movie features English original audio and English subtitles on the public UK page. Additional language options may depend on your Netflix profile, device, and account settings.

Although the public listing identifies the movie, Netflix determines actual playback permissions separately. A successful VPN connection does not guarantee that the film will appear in your account.

Best VPNs for watching Hypnotic on Netflix

All three VPN providers document United Kingdom server locations, but they differ in the number of available cities, streaming-oriented settings, and connection technologies.

VPN	Server locations in the United Kingdom	Option to try first
Private Internet Access (Editor’s Choice)	UK London, UK Manchester, UK Southampton, UK Tottenham, UK Streaming Optimized	UK Streaming Optimized for permitted streaming
ExpressVPN	Docklands, East London, London, Manchester, Midlands, Tottenham, Wembley	London
NordVPN	London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow	United Kingdom automatic selection

These are officially documented connection options, not a list of VPN servers proven to work with the British Netflix catalog. Netflix may recognize any of these connections and restrict access to regional titles.

1. Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access takes our Editor’s Choice position because it publishes a detailed list of British server locations and offers a dedicated UK Streaming Optimized entry. The company’s transparency makes it easier to understand the available endpoints without relying on unverified server claims.

The official PIA server directory identifies five United Kingdom choices: UK London, UK Manchester, UK Southampton, UK Tottenham, and UK Streaming Optimized.

The streaming-optimized entry is the most relevant option when comparing the service’s streaming-oriented connection features. However, optimized networking does not guarantee that Netflix accepts the connection for regional movies.

To find the relevant server, open the PIA application, navigate to VPN SERVER, and search for United Kingdom. Choose a location appropriate to your permitted use and wait until the application displays its connected status.

London provides a conventional British city endpoint, while Manchester offers another regional network route. Southampton and Tottenham provide additional alternatives for users who need to troubleshoot ordinary VPN connectivity.

PIA also maintains official virtual-server documentation. This explains the distinction between the country associated with a public IP address and the actual location of the VPN hardware.

The United Kingdom does not appear among the offshore virtual destinations in PIA’s published list. That distinguishes its UK entries from explicitly virtual connections such as India, although the provider does not identify the precise data center address of every British server.

For connection protocols, PIA supports WireGuard and OpenVPN. WireGuard generally offers efficient connection performance, while OpenVPN provides another option when a restrictive network or a particular device behaves differently.

For smooth video playback, the underlying internet connection matters as much as the VPN protocol. Wi-Fi congestion, ISP routing, physical distance, and demand on the selected server can increase buffering and connection latency.

If ordinary streaming becomes slow, compare your internet speed with and without the VPN, restart the application, and check for software updates. You can also compare a different documented British endpoint for general connection reliability.

Clearing relevant Netflix cookies and restarting the browser may help eliminate outdated session information. However, these steps do not override Netflix’s regional content restrictions.

Importantly, PIA’s official streaming policy prohibits using its service to circumvent geographic restrictions imposed by content providers and advises users to select their actual country when streaming.

For that reason, PIA is our first comparison choice for its documented infrastructure and privacy features, not because it promises that American subscribers can unlock Hypnotic through Netflix UK.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN ranks second because it offers several city-level British locations, a straightforward connection interface, and multiple supported VPN protocols.

Its official server directory lists Docklands, East London, London, Manchester, Midlands, Tottenham, and Wembley as United Kingdom locations.

London makes a practical first choice for general VPN connectivity because it appears directly in the provider’s location menu. Manchester and Wembley offer different routing alternatives, while Docklands and East London provide further choices within the capital.

To connect manually, launch ExpressVPN, open VPN Locations, search for United Kingdom, and select London. Wait until the application confirms that the connection has been established.

ExpressVPN also offers Smart Location, which automatically recommends a server based on estimated performance. However, its recommendation may point to another country, so manual selection is preferable when comparing British VPN routes.

The provider supports Lightway UDP and TCP, WireGuard, and OpenVPN on compatible devices. Lightway focuses on efficient connections and quick reconnection after interruptions, while WireGuard and OpenVPN provide alternative protocol choices.

ExpressVPN’s virtual-server documentation distinguishes servers that use an IP address associated with one country while their hardware operates elsewhere.

Its listed British endpoints do not appear among those offshore virtual destinations. Nevertheless, the provider does not publish the exact physical equipment address for every connection.

Connection speed depends on the distance between your device and the server, your ISP, network congestion, and the selected protocol. A server closer to your location may produce lower latency, but it may not provide the country connection you intend to use.

If normal browsing performs poorly, compare another permitted British location or supported protocol. An unstable connection can also benefit from restarting the application and checking the original internet speed.

These technical changes may improve network performance, but they cannot force Netflix to display Hypnotic (2023). ExpressVPN does not guarantee that any particular server will provide access to regionally licensed content.

3. NordVPN

NordVPN takes third place and provides British VPN connections in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

The official NordVPN UK server page documents these city choices. Users can select the United Kingdom automatically or choose a specific city from the application.

For automatic selection, open NordVPN and select United Kingdom on the server map. The application chooses an available endpoint based on its connection-selection process.

For a manual connection, select London or another documented city from the country menu. Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow provide additional options for users comparing ordinary VPN performance.

NordVPN supports NordLynx, its WireGuard-based protocol. The official NordLynx documentation explains how the protocol supports efficient encrypted traffic.

The provider also includes SmartPlay, which combines VPN routing and DNS-related technology. According to NordVPN’s SmartPlay support documentation, the feature activates automatically when users connect through the VPN application.

There is no separate SmartPlay switch to enable for ordinary use. However, SmartPlay does not guarantee that Netflix will grant access to all country-specific movies.

If ordinary browsing becomes slow, compare automatic UK server selection with a manually selected city. Check the network connection, update the application, and review the available protocols before assuming the issue comes from Netflix.

NordVPN’s British locations provide several useful network choices, but they do not establish that Hypnotic will become available through an American Netflix account.

What to do if Hypnotic does not appear

The most important troubleshooting step is identifying the correct movie. Hypnotic (2023) with Ben Affleck and Hypnotic (2021) with Kate Siegel are completely different films.

1. Close Netflix completely, including background application sessions and open browser tabs.
2. Disconnect from the VPN and verify that your ordinary internet connection works.
3. Reconnect to the United Kingdom only when the service terms permit your intended use.
4. Try another documented UK server for general connection troubleshooting.
5. Clear Netflix cookies and the relevant browser cache.
6. Open an incognito or private browser window to test without older browser-session data.
7. Reopen Netflix and sign in using your existing account.
8. Search for Hypnotic (2023), confirm the Ben Affleck cast listing, and check whether Netflix allows playback.

For PIA, the available British alternatives include London, Manchester, Southampton, and Tottenham. ExpressVPN lists London, Manchester, Wembley, and other UK locations. NordVPN offers London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

These locations can help resolve ordinary network problems, but Netflix may still identify the VPN and restrict the available movie catalog.

Netflix’s missing-title troubleshooting guide explains additional reasons movies disappear, including regional licensing, maturity restrictions, and profile language settings.

If Netflix displays a VPN error, follow its instructions and disconnect the VPN when necessary. Switching servers cannot guarantee that the 2023 movie will appear.

Netflix may detect the VPN

A VPN changes the public IP address visible to online services by routing traffic through another network location. Selecting a British server can provide an IP address associated with the United Kingdom while your physical location remains unchanged.

However, the IP address alone does not establish eligibility for regional streaming rights. Netflix may identify VPN traffic and limit the available catalog to titles licensed worldwide.

The official Netflix VPN policy explains why a movie may appear in a country’s public catalog while remaining unavailable to a subscriber using a VPN.

Consequently, even though Netflix UK lists Hypnotic (2023), no VPN can guarantee that an American subscriber will receive playback access.

Can you use a Netflix ad-supported plan with a VPN?

No. Netflix does not support VPN connections with its ad-supported experience.

Its official VPN support guidance explains that a VPN may prevent playback when the account uses an ad-supported plan. Netflix recommends disconnecting the VPN.

Ad-free Netflix subscriptions avoid this particular limitation, but VPN recognition and territorial licensing restrictions can still apply. Upgrading does not guarantee access to the British catalog.

Does changing the VPN location change your Netflix account?

No. A VPN changes the network route and visible public IP address, not your account credentials, payment information, saved profiles, or subscription details.

Netflix separately manages its content licensing and determines which movies your account can watch. Selecting a British VPN location does not automatically convert an American Netflix subscription into a British account.

If Hypnotic (2023) remains unavailable, review current US streaming and rental options for the Ben Affleck movie. Digital rental and purchase services provide alternatives without depending on another Netflix region.

Which VPN should you use?

Private Internet Access ranks first for its UK Streaming Optimized location, four named British city entries, and transparent server documentation. However, its terms prohibit geographic content circumvention, so the documented UK locations do not provide a guaranteed or permitted way to unlock Netflix UK from the United States.

ExpressVPN provides seven British locations and supports Lightway and other protocols on compatible devices. NordVPN offers British city choices, NordLynx, and automatically activated SmartPlay. Both provide useful encrypted connection features, but neither can guarantee Netflix playback for a geographically licensed movie.

As of October 16, 2026, Netflix UK and JustWatch UK list Hypnotic (2023), while the movie does not appear in Netflix US subscription listings. Netflix’s licensing rules, VPN detection, and provider terms may prevent playback through Britain, regardless of which VPN a subscriber chooses.
