Each account can hold up to five burner numbers. Users can select an available area code for each line, replace numbers they no longer need, and keep different parts of their communications separate.

The feature addresses a common limitation of encrypted messaging apps. Secure calls between users may remain protected inside one platform, but contacting someone on the public telephone network usually requires exposing a conventional phone number.

A burner number is a temporary or replaceable phone number that forwards calls through an application. The person receiving the call sees the burner number as the caller ID instead of the user’s underlying mobile number.

According to Glacier’s burner number documentation, one account can support as many as five lines. Users can choose area codes based on their business, travel, or personal requirements.

This protects the app-to-Glacier portion of the connection. However, users should not treat an external call as fully end-to-end encrypted once it leaves Glacier’s infrastructure and enters the public switched telephone network.
