How to Watch Geostorm on Netflix in the US with a VPN (2026)

Geostorm (2017), the science fiction disaster thriller directed by Dean Devlin, appears in Netflix’s India catalog. The official Netflix India movie page lists Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, and Abbie Cornish in a story about a malfunctioning satellite network designed to control the planet’s weather. The film is available under its original English title, Geostorm.

Geostorm does not currently appear in the Netflix US subscription listings, but Netflix India provides an international catalog option. Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN all offer virtual Indian VPN locations. These connections provide Indian IP addresses even though the underlying servers operate outside India.

A VPN does not guarantee access to the Indian Netflix catalog. Netflix may recognize VPN connections and limit subscribers to globally licensed movies. The official Netflix VPN policy explains these restrictions. VPN providers may also prohibit using their services to bypass geographic content restrictions.

How to watch Geostorm on Netflix with a VPN

Netflix India lists Geostorm under its original title, making the film straightforward to identify. Follow these steps to configure a VPN connection and check whether Netflix permits playback.

1. Choose a VPN. Start by comparing Private Internet Access, followed by ExpressVPN and NordVPN, and review the applicable service policies.
2. Download and install the VPN application from the provider’s official website or your device’s application store.
3. Select India in the server location menu. PIA lists an India virtual location, ExpressVPN offers India via Singapore or the UK, and NordVPN offers a virtual Indian endpoint.
4. Close Netflix completely before establishing a new network connection.
5. Connect to the selected VPN endpoint and reopen Netflix after the application confirms the connection.
6. Sign in to your existing Netflix account with your normal credentials.
7. Search for Geostorm and select the 2017 movie starring Gerard Butler.
8. Start playback if Netflix displays the movie and your account has permission to access it.

You can open the official Netflix India listing for Geostorm to verify the title and movie details. The public page identifies the film as a science fiction action thriller about a global weather catastrophe.

Netflix India lists English original audio and Hindi audio, along with English and Hindi subtitles. These options make the film accessible to viewers who prefer either language, although the exact selection can vary by playback device and account.

Best VPNs for watching Geostorm on Netflix

All three VPNs provide virtual Indian endpoints. Because the providers host these connections outside India, it is important to distinguish the country assigned to the public IP address from the actual server location.

VPN	Server locations in India	Option to try first
Private Internet Access (Editor’s Choice)	India (Mumbai virtual IP location, physically hosted in Singapore)	India
ExpressVPN	India via Singapore; India via UK, both virtual	India via Singapore
NordVPN	India virtual location, hosted outside India	India automatic connection

The country label does not establish that Netflix will display the Indian catalog. A successfully established virtual Indian VPN connection can still trigger Netflix’s detection and licensing restrictions.

1. Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access is our Editor’s Choice because it clearly identifies its India location and publishes information about where the virtual infrastructure operates.

The official PIA location directory lists an India entry, while the company’s virtual location documentation identifies India (Mumbai) as a virtual endpoint hosted in Singapore.

This means users can obtain an Indian virtual IP identity without connecting to physical servers located inside India. The distinction matters for latency and network routing because the connection must still reach the actual hosting location.

PIA does not document a separate India Streaming Optimized entry or several individually selectable Indian cities. Its publicly listed option is simply India, so users should not expect a large menu of Indian city alternatives.

To connect, launch the PIA application, open the location selector, and search for India. Select that location if your use complies with the service’s terms. After connecting, the application should display its active connection status.

For general connection performance, PIA supports WireGuard and OpenVPN. WireGuard often provides an efficient connection with relatively little protocol overhead, while OpenVPN offers an alternative on networks where WireGuard performs poorly or encounters compatibility problems.

Because the Indian virtual endpoint operates from Singapore, geographical distance to Singapore can influence connection latency. A user connecting from the United States may experience different network performance from someone located in South Asia.

Streaming quality also depends on the local internet connection, Wi-Fi stability, server demand, and device capabilities. Switching protocols may improve an unstable VPN tunnel, but it does not change Netflix’s content licensing.

PIA does not publish additional India locations for users to cycle through when a service blocks a particular endpoint. Reconnecting to the same country may help resolve a temporary networking problem, but it cannot guarantee a different Netflix result.

The company’s official streaming guidance also prohibits using PIA to circumvent geographic restrictions imposed by content providers. It recommends selecting a server appropriate to the subscriber’s actual location and permitted use.

For these reasons, PIA’s transparent virtual-server information makes it a useful VPN comparison choice, but its documented restrictions mean users should not interpret the India location as a guaranteed or permitted Netflix-unlocking service.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN ranks second and offers two officially documented virtual India connections. Its global server directory identifies India via Singapore and India via the United Kingdom.

Both locations provide Indian IP addresses while hosting their actual VPN infrastructure in another country. ExpressVPN describes this arrangement in its official virtual server documentation.

India via Singapore makes a reasonable first connection choice for users comparing the two virtual routes because it avoids routing the initial VPN connection through the UK. However, the better option depends on the user’s actual location and network.

To connect, open ExpressVPN and select the VPN Locations menu. Search for India and choose India via Singapore. Wait for the application to confirm that it has established the connection.

If that route performs poorly during ordinary internet activity, India via UK provides another documented location. The two endpoints differ in physical hosting geography, so connection latency and routing characteristics may also differ.

ExpressVPN offers Lightway and other supported protocols, including WireGuard and OpenVPN where available. Lightway provides a lightweight connection option, while the application’s automatic protocol setting can simplify everyday use.

When comparing the virtual Indian routes, consider that users in Europe may experience different latency from users in North America or Asia. The server physically handling the VPN connection matters more to network performance than the country label alone.

If a connection slows down, close unnecessary applications using bandwidth, check the underlying internet connection, and compare the available VPN protocols. Reconnecting may resolve a temporary tunnel problem.

Netflix may still show only globally licensed content or reject playback if it detects the VPN. ExpressVPN’s virtual Indian locations do not guarantee access to Geostorm or any other title licensed for India.

3. NordVPN

NordVPN ranks third and provides a virtual Indian VPN location. Unlike providers with physical infrastructure in the country, NordVPN withdrew its physical Indian servers after changes to Indian data-retention requirements.

According to NordVPN’s official India server documentation, the provider subsequently introduced a virtual Indian server location. Its support information confirms the virtual arrangement rather than claiming that it maintains physical servers inside India.

To establish a connection, open the NordVPN application, search for India, and select the available country entry. NordVPN can automatically choose an available connection within that virtual location.

NordVPN’s documentation does not establish multiple separately selectable Indian cities for this setup. Therefore, there is no basis for recommending unverified cities or claiming that the provider operates physical infrastructure in Mumbai or New Delhi.

The service supports NordLynx, its WireGuard-based protocol. The official NordLynx guide explains how the protocol works within NordVPN’s applications.

NordVPN also provides SmartPlay functionality. According to the official SmartPlay support article, the feature activates automatically when users establish a NordVPN connection.

SmartPlay combines elements of DNS routing and VPN technology, but it does not guarantee that Netflix will present geographically restricted movies. Netflix retains control over account access, licensing, and VPN recognition.

For connection troubleshooting, try reconnecting, updating the NordVPN application, checking the network’s normal internet performance, or changing supported protocols. These steps can improve technical connection reliability without guaranteeing streaming access.

What to do if Geostorm does not appear

When Netflix does not display Geostorm, the problem may relate to geographic licensing, VPN detection, the account’s available catalog, or saved browser information.

1. Close Netflix completely before changing the VPN connection.
2. Disconnect from the VPN and verify that your ordinary internet connection works.
3. Reconnect to the documented India location only when the VPN provider and streaming service permit that use.
4. Try another officially documented India route if your provider offers one.
5. Clear Netflix cookies and relevant browser cache.
6. Open an incognito or private browsing window.
7. Reopen Netflix and sign in again using your existing credentials.
8. Search for Geostorm (2017) and check whether Netflix allows playback.

PIA lists one India virtual location, so its users have no separately documented Indian city alternative. ExpressVPN users can compare the India via Singapore and India via UK routes. NordVPN users can reconnect through its documented India virtual location.

None of these steps guarantees access to the Indian Netflix catalog. If Netflix detects an active VPN, it may restrict what appears in search results or display a playback error.

Read Netflix’s missing-title guidance for other reasons a movie may not appear, including profile settings and licensing changes. If Netflix reports a VPN problem, follow its recommendations and disconnect the VPN.

Netflix may detect the VPN

Virtual Indian VPN connections use public IP addresses associated with India, but their physical servers operate in other countries. Netflix can evaluate the connection independently of the advertised IP location.

The Netflix VPN policy explains that subscribers may see only titles licensed worldwide when Netflix recognizes a VPN.

This means a successful VPN connection does not automatically change the movies that your account can play. Geostorm may appear on a public Indian Netflix page while remaining unavailable to a particular US subscriber using a VPN.

VPN providers cannot guarantee that Netflix will recognize a connection as eligible for the Indian catalog. Licensing agreements and technical restrictions can change without notice.

Can you use a Netflix ad-supported plan with a VPN?

No. Netflix does not support VPN connections when subscribers use its ad-supported experience.

If Netflix detects a VPN, an ad-supported subscriber may encounter an error message instead of normal playback. The official Netflix guidance for this error recommends disconnecting the VPN.

An ad-free subscription removes that specific restriction, but Netflix may still limit access to regionally licensed movies. Upgrading your plan does not guarantee that Geostorm will become available through a virtual Indian VPN location.

Does changing the VPN location change your Netflix account?

Connecting through an Indian VPN endpoint does not automatically change your Netflix account credentials, payment information, subscription, or existing profiles.

A VPN affects the network connection and visible public IP address. Netflix still manages the subscription and determines which titles your account may watch.

If Geostorm remains inaccessible, review Geostorm streaming alternatives in the United States rather than assuming that another VPN location will provide access.

Which VPN should you use?

Private Internet Access ranks first because its virtual India location and physical hosting details are clearly documented. Its Mumbai-associated virtual endpoint operates from Singapore, although PIA’s streaming policy expressly prohibits circumventing content-provider geographic restrictions.

ExpressVPN provides two virtual Indian routes, one through Singapore and another through the UK, offering different network options. NordVPN provides a virtual India location, NordLynx, and automatically activated SmartPlay functionality. These are useful technical differences, not evidence of guaranteed Netflix access.

As of October 16, 2026, the official Netflix India catalog lists Geostorm (2017), while Netflix US subscription listings do not include the movie. Regional licensing, Netflix’s VPN detection, and individual provider policies can prevent playback, so none of these VPNs guarantees that US subscribers can watch the film through India.
