is VPNArea dead

VPNArea, a well-known VPN service, has mysteriously gone offline, with users unable to log in and its website down. Customers are now left in the lurch, wondering what happened and what to do next.

The news was first picked up by Reddit users, who noticed that VPNArea’s website wasn’t loading, and its X account had been dormant since June 15. VPNArea hasn’t posted on LinkedIn for a week, either.

VPNArea, which is registered in Bulgaria as Offshore Security LTD, has been active for a number of years and was once considered one of the best VPNs on the market.

The company’s LinkedIn page is also removed.

It’s unclear what’s happened to the service.

The Wayback Machine, a tool for accessing archived versions of websites, shows that VPNArea was up and running as recently as May.

But now, the site times out with a host error, and the company’s servers are inaccessible, too.

The company operated one more website http://ipleak.org/ , which was also seen live last in May.

Interestingly, the owner of Offshore Security LTD – Dimitar Dobrev had another VPN project running – a blockchain one, called Neutrality Way. As you might have guessed, it was last live in May 2024 and as of today, it’s for sale for $3,288.

The question now is where VPNArea has gone, and what users who are currently paying for it should do.

The mother company’s financials have been down-trending in the last few years so it’s one of the probable reasons why the company doesn’t seem to be operational anymore.

I tried contacting the owners via LinkedIn but they haven’t replied. The official phone number for the company is no longer associated with them as well.

I also found that this website is still accessible – https://www.offshoresecurity.global/ where Mr. Sam (Wisam) Sawalhi is a Global Managing Director. That’s the parent company of VPNArea, so I was quite surprised the website is still operational.

So being nosy as I am, I booked a call with Mr. Sawalhi. To no one’s surprise, after 15 minutes of waiting, no one showed up.

This is me patiently waiting to ask Mr. Sawalhi the questions we all have.

Naturally, I tried all other methods of contact, including phone, email, and all the VPNArea contact options. Everything was a dead end.

If I were you, I’d cancel my automatic payments to VPNArea immediately. Naturally, this might’ve been a temporary site issue, but too many unknowns could make even the more optimistic of you stop believing it will all be fine.
