• Split tunneling: You can select specific apps to bypass the VPN for direct internet access. It’s vital for evading geo-restrictions while accessing local services with ease. 
•  Reliable protocol: The service supports IKEv2/IPSec, a solid connection protocol. However, it can’t match up to alternatives like OpenVPN and WireGuard.

Cons

Here are some of its disadvantages. 

• Fewer locations: The VPN’s limited server locations can restrict access to geo-locked content in most regions. Moreover, its fewer servers may lead to congestion, resulting in average speeds.
• No kill switch: Your data risks accidental exposure due to the unavailability of a kill switch. This can leave you vulnerable to eavesdropping and privacy breaches.
• Disconnects randomly: The service drops connections occasionally, affecting its reliability. Such frequent disconnects compromise security and overall user experience.
• Annoying ads: The VPN floods you with annoying ads anytime you want to use it. These can be bothersome when trying to reconnect or switch servers.

Luna VPN’s safety is questionable for several reasons. While it offers a secure IKEv2/IPSec protocol, it lacks in some areas.

One thing I noticed is the service runs on third-party web hosting servers. These normally have storage hardware, which increases the risk of security breaches.

As noted earlier, the VPN also doesn’t have a kill switch. Should the connection fail, your data is more likely to leak.

Other than that, multiple tests show its DNS/IP leak protection is solid. Moreover, I didn’t encounter any CAPTCHAs, suggesting that this VPN’s IPs are spam-free.

Verdict

Luna VPN is clearly a solid virtual private network service for Android. Despite being free, it offers modest server coverage and acceptable browsing speeds.

The app is equally simple and straightforward. It works exceptionally well, even on devices with fewer resources.

However, the service has its fair share of shortcomings. Obvious ones include the lack of a kill switch, ad blocking, and superior protocols.
