If you are an avid Minecraft player, you may have encountered the error message Your IP has been identified as a VPN or Proxy or something along those lines.

This error can be frustrating and confusing, especially if you are not actually using a VPN or proxy, which can sometimes happen.

But the good news is that there are ways to fix it.

In this article, we will explain what this error message means, why it appears, and what you can do to fix it. Keep reading.

Why has your IP been identified as a VPN or Proxy in Minecraft?

Minecraft server administrators can block players who use VPNs by adding recognized VPN server IP addresses to a blacklist.

The Minecraft server detects and checks your IP address against a list of known VPN and proxy servers.

If your IP address matches one of the IPs on the list, the server assumes that you are using a VPN or proxy and blocks your connection to the server.

Why does this happen?

Because server admins want to prevent players from cheating or using hacks.

VPNs and proxies can hide a player’s true IP address, making it difficult for the server to detect and prevent cheating.

Also, you may get this error even when you’re not actually using VPN, but you are using two different computers with different IP addresses to play the game.

We’ll discuss potential fixes to this in the following section.

How to fix it?

If you receive the Your IP has been identified as a VPN or Proxy error message, you have a few options to fix the issue:

1. Try another server

If you’re using a VPN, the easiest way to fix the issue is to disconnect your VPN or proxy and try to connect to the different server again on the provider.

  1. Disconnect from your current VPN server.
  2. On your VPN app, expand the server list.

  1. Select another server from the dropdown list.
  2. Connect to Minecraft again.

2. Use a VPN with a dedicated IP address

A dedicated IP address is assigned only to you rather than being shared with other users.

Using one can avoid your connection being flagged as a VPN or proxy because your IP address is unique and not associated with any known VPN or proxy service.

Plus, it won’t change every time you connect, so the Minecraft servers won’t get info about the same user connecting from a different million IPs, which can be seen as suspicious activity.

You can contact your VPN or proxy provider to obtain a dedicated IP address and ask if they offer this option.

However, note that most VPN providers charge extra for dedicated IP addresses.

3. Contact the server administrator

If you are not using a VPN or proxy and are still receiving the error message, you can contact the server administrator to remove your IP address from their list of banned IPs.

Alternatively, you can submit a ticket to Minecraft explaining the situation and request a review of your restriction.

4. Use a different Minecraft server

Some users report having this issue even if they don’t use a VPN, and it may be a bug of that particular server, not an anti-proxy policy.

An easy solution to that is using a different server. Here’s how to do that.

  1. Access your control panel and stop your Minecraft server.

  1. Find the Server Type field and click the drop-down menu.

5. Switch to a better VPN for Minecraft

If you keep having the same your IP has been identified as proxy error time and time again, maybe it’s time to switch to a better VPN that won’t be detected by Minecraft.

We recommend using PIA as we’ve tested it to give uninterrupted gameplay while playing Minecraft & Minecraft Dungeons

Here’s how to use it with Minecraft:

  1. Get Private Internet Access and download the app to your device.

  2. Install the application and login.

  3. Select a VPN server closer to your location and connect.

  4. With your VPN connected, try reconnecting on Minecraft.

PIA has the largest number of servers of all VPNs, with a global total of over 35,000.

This means that each server will serve fewer users, preventing too many simultaneous connections. You get to pick any country you want for your gaming without limitations.

And you’ll have a wider range of IP addresses to switch in case the current one isn’t working on Minecraft.
